One weekend not too long ago, my sister and I went for dinner at my favorite restaurant. The restaurant is part of the charming local bed and breakfast. Everything about the building is quaint and romantic and pretty without being fussy. I love it. It’s a feast for the soul.
For dinner we enjoyed squash soup served in squash bowls. It’s was sooooooo yummy. Smooth and warm and a hint of bite at the end. I was starting to talk myself into attempting to make the soup - complete with natural bowls - at home when the waitress came by to refill our water. We remarked that the bowls were so cute, we wanted to swallow them and ingest all the cuteness. She said, “Aren’t they cute? They were a lot more work than I thought they’d be, though. Wow.”
So, I’ll let them make the soup and bowl. I am lazy.
I’d never had a salad with pomegranate and pine nuts. How I’d never eaten salad with pomegranate is a mystery to me. That’s how salad was meant to be eaten. Wowza.
I’m not going to talk about all the food because it was Food Day at work today and I’m done with food for a few hours. But it was good and I want to remember the soup and the salad and the beef tenderloin and the mashed sweet potatoes that I liked better than the mashed sweet potatoes served at the same event a year earlier. I had my first glass of Shiraz with the entree and fell in love with it. I also want to remember that when I chose Pinot Grigio for the first part of the dinner, it was a hit. And that the apple dumpling was an appropriate choice for the theme of the menu, but fell flat. Much like a performer who is good, but who follows a really, really spectacular act and just can’t measure up.
Other people are much better at preparing and talking about food and its preparation than I am. I will leave it to them. Amy of Beauty Joy Food is one of those people and she is a new addition to my blogroll. Please pay her a visit.
